Vodafone will face a High Court patent battle over its 4G emergency network technology with a licensing company that has previously chased billions of pounds worth of royalties from tech giants, including Apple.
The UK-listed telecoms company faces a claim understood to be worth in excess of £100m from Germany's IPCom, a private-equity backed licensing firm, over claims Vodafone has infringed its network patents.
IPCom claims Vodafone has breached a patent for giving mobile phones access to the LTE network, including technology that gives emergency service calls priority on the network. The case will go to trial in November.
